Is the Vrindavan corridor got permission?
As of April 2026, the Banke Bihari Temple Corridor project has officially received permission and has moved into the active execution phase. Following a decisive ruling by the Supreme Court in mid-2025, the legal hurdles that previously stalled the project have been cleared.
Here is the current status of the permissions and progress:
1. The Supreme Court “Green Signal”
In May 2025, the Supreme Court cleared the decks for the project by allowing the Uttar Pradesh government to utilize approximately ₹500 crore from the temple’s fixed deposits for land acquisition and development.
- Key Condition: The court mandated that all land acquired for the corridor must be registered in the name of the Deity (Shri Banke Bihari Ji) rather than the government.
- Management: In August 2025, the court constituted a High-Powered Committee led by a retired High Court judge to manage the temple’s daily affairs and oversee the corridor’s construction.
2. Status of Land Acquisition (April 2026)
With the legal path cleared, the administration has begun the physical takeover of the required 5-acre area.
- First Registry: A major milestone was reached in January 2026, when the first land transfer deed was officially registered in the Biharipura area.
- Voluntary Participation: Many members of the Goswami (priest) community and local residents have started voluntarily registering their properties for the project in exchange for compensation.
- Digital Mapping: As of early 2026, a comprehensive Digital Mapping Survey has been completed to finalize the blueprints for the 7-meter-wide pathways and facilities.
3. Current Construction Phase
As of April 13, 2026, the project is in the following state:
- Demolitions & Clearing: The High-Powered Committee is currently expediting the registration of commercial and residential buildings marked for the 5-acre corridor.
- Infrastructure Work: Trunk infrastructure planning (sewerage and water lines) is underway.
- New Regulations: The committee has already begun implementing new rules within the temple area, such as barring private security personnel for VIPs to ensure smoother crowd flow during the construction transition.
Summary Table: Permission & Progress
| Authority | Status | Date of Action |
| Supreme Court | Approved (Funds & Land Use) | May & August 2025 |
| UP Government | Active Execution (Survey/Admin) | January 2026 |
| Land Registry | In Progress (First deed signed) | January 16, 2026 |
| Digital Survey | Completed | January 2026 |
Verdict: The corridor has all necessary permissions and is no longer a “proposed” plan. It is a live project with active land acquisition and infrastructure surveying happening on the ground in Vrindavan right now.
